Cambridge Walking Tour

For our other major trip with Dad, we decided to go to Cambridge and experience some of the rich culture and history of the area.  We started out by heading to the Tourist Information building and joined a tour group.  Our group of about twenty followed a very nice older woman who was very knowledgeable about this area of England, despite her Scottish accent.  Turns out, her husband worked at Cambridge University and the stories and traditions were passed along through her.

Starting out in the town market (one of our first England blog entries) we were educated on the various colleges and how they are all a part of Cambridge University.  When you apply for school, you apply to a college and attend the same classes as every other student.  You're diploma would read "Cambridge University" no matter what college you were associated with.  So, the colleges were like our fraternities and sororities and everyone would be a graduate of the same school.

The colleges were really interesting.  Most of them were extremely old with courtyards, chapels, and libraries.  The colleges also provided lodging and dining facilities for the students.  Very seldom does a student live off campus.  For their time there, they lived, studied, and graduated together.

After the tour, we took Dad out for Japanese food at our favorite place, Teri-Yaki.  It is situated right alongside the River Cam, so we were able to see one of the Cam-bridges, hehe!

We had a ton of fun when Dad came to visit and we hope that we'll have lots more opportunities to enjoy England with our loved ones.
